13:15 Who to Blame if your Additively Manufactured Part Fails? Failure Analysis for Laser Metal Powder Bed Fusion

Contrary to common belief, Laser Metal Powder Bed Fusion is a fully mature manufacturing technology capable of producing critical application parts for demanding industries, such as Energy or Aerospace. In this presentation, Piotr Domeracki will demonstrate that a stable process, which takes into account technology constraints, enables companies to eliminate the risks associated with the adoption of Laser Metal Powder Bed Fusion. To systematically do this, it is necessary to focus on the process, material and applications, going deeper to understand the causes and effects of individual aspects such as work procedures, hardware and optics calibration, laser control, material-specific requirements, component design and part post-processing.

Piotr Domeracki has focused throughout his entire career on Additive Manufacturing, beginning with his studies at Poznan University of Technology where he obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree while completing an internship at EOS GmbH in Munich, Germany. From there, he first became a project manager and later the department head of the Additive Manufacturing department in FADO, a company which already was an expert in injection molding and subsequently became the market leader in the use of conformal cooling in Additive Manufacturing. Learning by doing, Piotr led a team of engineers in implementing AM into serial production at FADO as well as complex projects involving hybrid construction, manufacturing of inserts and 24-hour insert manufacturing cycles. After gaining production experience, he became CEO and co-founder of Magnitude Innovations Ltd based out of the UK in order to democratize AM knowledge and deliver comprehensive production solutions to industrial partners, primarily in Aerospace, Energy, Motorsport and Tooling partners.
