purmundus challenge 2018:
Preparing for the Future with 3D Printing
How should design in 3D printing look? This year, the Purmundus Challenge, an international competition for innovative ideas in design, which is already being held for the sixth time, will be addressing this question. Under this year's theme, “Preparing for the Future with 3D Printing”, the 2018 contest will once again seek to recognize solutions that address some of the challenges of our modern world with the help of additive manufacturing. On the one hand, it is about what is technically feasible today, on the other hand, it is about intelligent, forward-looking solutions. The best ideas will be presented at formnext 2018 in a special showcase.
On 15 November 2018, the Purmundus Challenge finalists will receive their awards. The design award will be issued by an international jury consisting of prestigious representatives from research and teaching, as well as markets and industry. The panel includes professors for additive manufacturing, futurologists, industrial designers, mechatronics engineers, as well as specialists from architecture, model design, and prototyping.
Who are we looking for?
Since 2012, the Purmundus Challenge has invited designers, engineers, and programmers to forge down new paths in product design. The target group of this innovative idea competition is creative minds who have thought about the design of future products and are already exploring the perspectives that these cutting-edge technologies, such as 3D printing, are opening up for future product design.
What are we looking for?
From concepts to finalized products, all entries are possible. You are allowed to combine semi-finished products and other manufacturing operations with the 3D printing procedure. You can also test out new procedures and materials – including those which are still in development. The Purmundus Challenge jury will be looking for solutions that stand out not only in terms of their design, innovativeness, and sustainability, but their utility, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness as well.
What can you win?
You can look forward to cash prizes, as well as other prizes, totaling €12,000. Rounding out the Purmundus Challenge will be the audience prize, the winner of which will be determined over the course of formnext by its attendees.
Where will the prize-giving ceremony be held?
The prize-giving ceremony will be held in a special showcase at formnext in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on 15 November 2018. Formnext will run from 13 - 16 November 2018.
When can I submit ideas until?
The submission deadline for the Purmundus Challenge is 23 September 2018.
