Long recognized among the leading manufacturer of encoders and measurement systems in Europe and worldwide, Lika Electronic continues the trend with the SMx series to include high quality and outstanding dependability as exemplified by performance with increased accuracy at high travel speeds, and rugged design with immunity to dirt, debris and environmental factors. Furthermore, the versatile design allows for a quick and easy installation, with a maintenance-free operation at a competitive cost. For an ultra-compact design, the SMSR model is the smallest linear encoder on the market encompassing a unique 25mm x 8.5mm x 15mm (0.98 x 0.33 x 0.59inch) sensor head. Featuring a robust aluminum housing with new fully integrated miniaturized circuitry, the new series has an IP67-rated protection against environmental factors including oil, grease, water jets, common chemical agents and the finest of dust particles. Moreover, they are able to handle extreme shock and vibration impacts as well as large temperature fluctuations (operating temperature range is between -25°C +85°C, -13°F +185°F). The SMx’s non-contact operation also provides wear-free operation and ensures unparalleled reliability over time, making Lika magnetic linear sensors the better and lower cost alternative to the more delicate and higher priced optical linear sensor and transducers. Lika's SMx series uses an advanced dual element magneto-resistive sensor for producing impressive accuracy even at highest speeds, low modulation rates and superb signal output clarity. The sensors also features automatic gain control (AGC) and automatic offset correction (AOC) functions for improving signal quality and minimization of the sub-divisional error (SDE). Moreover, the new magnetic system provides liberal mounting tolerances and enables a gap between the sensor and the magnetic scale of up to 0.5 mm (0.019in) allowing for unparalleled ease of installation in comparison to optical sensors, while still maintaining dependable operation and high performance characteristics. The incremental versions are offered in two different series: SMS series provides analog sine/cosine 1Vpp with interpolatable output signals and 1000 µm accuracy, while the SME series generates square wave output signals and features Push-Pull or Line-Driver output circuits and selectable resolutions to 0.5 µm. The maximum operating speed is up to 8 m/s (26.25 ft/s). The entire range of encoders is equipped with an integral sensor for detecting the “0” position reference mark that may be installed at the preferred location along the scale, encompassing two LEDs for easy installation exhibiting proper operation diagnostics and 0 reference mark. Upon request, additional limit switches are available for sensing upper and lower limits along the scale, also shown via LEDs. Lika's incremental linear sensors are ideally suited for any industrial application also requiring long travel distances, even in the harshest environmental conditions, such as numerically controlled machine tools including milling machines, machining centres, boring machines, lathes and grinding machines, robots, textiles, woodworking, metal & stone working machinery. The ultra-compact SMSR incremental sensor provides analog sinusoidal signals and is typically suitable for installation in short travel distances including product handling equipment, pick & place robots, electronic assembly systems, printing and measuring machines, and electro-medical instruments. For applications in which absolute position feedback is required, Lika Electronic offers the SMA1 series absolute sensor. This rugged, reliable and cost-effective magnetic encoder combines maximum allowable speeds of up to 5 m/s (16.4 ft/s) with programmable resolutions to 5 µm. The SMA1 has a maximum axis travel length of 5.1 m (16.73 ft), and is the world's only linear sensor equipped with an all-digital BISS interface for both -B and -C protocols for high operating speeds, and includes improved protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) with enhanced bi-directional communication for subsequent controllers. The SMA1 is additionally offered in synchronous serial interface (SSI); while analog sine/cosine 1Vpp output signals for feedback speed control are provided as standard. Lika Electronic's all new linear sensors are equipped with polymer/ferrite composite magnetically encoded scale which is highly immune to dirt, debris and external contaminants and can be easily applied / removed via a pre-applied self-adhesive backing. Sensor wipers are available for debris removal from the magnetic surface ensuring a clear path of motion. Additionally, Lika’s new sensors incorporate new high-flex cabling specifically suited for use in cable track applications, with approved testing and rating for more than 1 million cycles.
